It seems wise to say, “everyone should get what they deserve.” But this is a worldly wisdom, not the wisdom from above. Real wisdom is full of mercy. God has mercy on us, which is a really, really good thing! If it weren’t for His mercy, we could never be saved from our sin. It’s easy to love mercy when others are merciful towards us, but it’s a lot more difficult when it’s time for us to be merciful towards others. Any time we have an opportunity to be merciful, it can be really easy to find a “good” reason to not show mercy. If God’s kindness leads us to repentance, why would we think that it’s our job to make sure that people “learn their lesson” by being unmerciful towards them? God’s way is always better. Real wisdom is merciful.
Bible Verses:
- James 3:17 – Wisdom from above
- Romans 2:4 – God’s kindness is meant to lead to repentance
- Micah 6:8 – Love mercy
- Lamentations 3:22-23 – His mercies never end
Family Time Questions:
- Why is it so hard to have mercy on others?
- When is it easy to like mercy?
- How has God shown mercy towards us?
- What makes mercy wise?
Prayer:
“Dear God, thank You for having mercy on us. Please help us to be kind to others, showing mercy as you have shown us mercy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
