We all have people we like, people it’s very hard to like, and those we simply don’t think about much at all. It can be very easy to think that something that benefits our favorite people (including ourselves) is a good idea. We naturally want good things to happen to the people we like and bad things to happen to the people we dislike. But this is not at all wisdom from above. God calls us to be impartial, to not show favoritism towards anyone. Also, just because your friend or favorite celebrity says something, that doesn’t mean what they say is wise. Real wisdom is from God, and godly wisdom doesn’t pick favorites. Real wisdom is impartial.

Bible Verses:

  • James 3:17 – Wisdom from above
  • Romans 2:11 – God shows no partiality
  • Leviticus 19:15 – Judge in righteousness, not partiality
  • James 2:1-9 – Show no partiality

Family Time Questions:

  • What does it mean to be impartial?
  • Why is it so hard not to pick favorites?
  • Why shouldn’t we pick favorites?
  • What should we do instead?

Prayer:

“Dear God, thank You for Your righteousness. Please help us to follow Your example and not show partiality. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
