We have a really bad habit of assigning value to people. But we don’t view people the way God does, and He’s the one who decides your value. Many of us have the completely wrong idea, we think “good people” matter to God and “bad people” don’t. But God loves those who are lost just as much as those who aren’t. No matter what you do, God will always want you. A crumpled-up dollar bill is worth just as much as a crisp new dollar bill, and it’s the same with us and our sin. There are so many ways that sin can ruin so many things, but your sin can never ruin you for God. Just like you would look for a lost silver coin, Jesus will always go looking for the lost.
Bible Verses:
- Luke 15:8-10 | The parable of the lost coin.
- Zephaniah 3:17 | The Lord rejoices over you.
- Romans 5:8 | God’s love towards us.
- Matthew 10:29-31 | We are valued by God
- Luke 19:10 | Jesus came to seek and save the lost.
Family Time Questions:
- What do you think this parable teaches us about how God views each person?
- How can we remind ourselves that our value comes from God, not from what we do or how others see us?
- Can you think of a time when you felt ‘lost’? How did you find your way back?
- Why do you think Jesus compared us to a lost coin in this parable?
- How can we show others that they are valuable to God, even if they feel ‘lost’?
Prayer:
“Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for always valuing us, even when we feel lost or unworthy. Help us to remember that our worth comes from You, not from our actions or others’ opinions of us. Teach us to value others the same way You do, and to be a light to those who feel lost. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
