People often have the completely wrong idea about who God is and what He’s like. Believing that God is some sort of bully or a tyrant can lead people to reject Him completely (“Why would I follow a God who hates me?”) or follow Him in the wrong way and for the wrong reasons (“I better follow the rules or else God’s gunna get me!”). The truth that we must absolutely understand is that God loves you. Even while we were His enemies, Christ died for us. This is not the sort of thing a bully does, this is what the God who loves you does. Sin still ruins things here on Earth, that’s the nature of sin. So, “You better follow God, or else!” still stands in a way. But God is not out to get you. And because of God’s incredible love for you, through Jesus’ sacrifice, if you believe in Him, you will have eternal life.

Bible Verses:

  • Ephesians 2:4-9 – God’s love for you
  • Romans 6:23 – The wages of sin is death
  • John 3:16 – God’s plan to save you
  • Romans 5:8 – God loves you even at your worst

Family Time Questions:

  • Why should we obey God?
  • Does obeying God save us from Hell?
  • Does God love to punish people?
  • How has God shown His love for us?

Prayer:

“Dear God, thank You for Your incredible love for us. Please help us to obey You, knowing that You always want what’s best for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
