A lot of the “heroes” of the Bible don’t seem all that heroic at times… Why is that? The truth is that people aren’t perfect, we all mess up. Even the people we might call “heroes” are not perfect. Thank goodness that we serve a God who loves us (and others who fail) and forgives us of our sins. There’s only one real hero, only one who is perfect, and His name is Jesus. He’s the real hero of the Bible and the only true hero, period. Let’s follow Him with all our hearts!
Bible Verses:
- Romans 3:10 | Everyone sins, no one is righteous.
- 2 Samuel 11:14-17, 26-27 | David had a good man killed so he could take his wife.
- Numbers 20:10-12 | Moses messed up and couldn’t enter the promised land.
- Genesis 27 | Jacob stole his brother’s blessing by lying.
- 1 Peter 2:22 | Only Jesus never sinned.
- Psalm 32:1-2 | David recognized God’s forgiveness as a blessing.
- Romans 5:8 | God loves us so much . . .
Family Time Questions:
• Why do some of the “heroes” of the Bible do pretty terrible things?
• Is it OK for us to do what is wrong?
• Why does God forgive us even if it’s not OK for us to do what is wrong?
• Who’s the only real hero?
Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for your incredible love for me. Thank you for your forgiveness and for being the real hero. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
