It’s so difficult to say just about anything without offending someone. And, it sounds silly, but it can be really hard to not get offended by people being so easily offended. The Bible says that it is a glory to overlook an offense. And it’s easy to think, “Yeah, they shouldn’t get offended so easily!” but we really need to apply that truth to ourselves instead. There are times when we need to not worry about offending others, but there are so many instances in Scripture where we are commanded to be kind, to be patient, and to do our best to not offend others. Showing love and courtesy to people who are being unreasonable is not easy, but few good things are. As far as it depends on us, let’s live at peace with all people and do what we can to give no offense.
Bible Verses:
- 1 Corinthians 10:32-33 – Give no offense
- Proverbs 19:11 – Glory to overlook an offense
- Romans 12:17-18 – Do what is honorable in the sight of all
- Titus 3:1-2 – Show perfect courtesy toward all people
- Colossians 4:5-6 – Speech seasoned with salt
Family Time Questions:
- Is it a good thing to be easily offended?
- How should we treat people who are easily offended?
- Why is it so hard to be patient with people who are easily offended?
- What are some times when we should not worry about offending others?
Prayer:
“Dear God, thank You for loving us and for always being patient with us. Please help us to do our best to show kindness to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
