It’s important to stand up for what’s right. But, when people turn back to God, we often end up saying, “I told you so!” instead of celebrating with them. That’s not how God wants us to be and that’s not what love looks like. God wants all people to believe and obey Him, to accept His Truth and Love. And when they do He celebrates! The parable of the prodigal son is a great example of this. Godly love rejoices with the truth!

Jesus told a story of a man with two sons. One son asked his father for his inheritance (which was a really insulting thing to do) and when his father gave it to him, he wasted it all! this story is called “The Prodigal Son” because “prodigal” means really really wasteful. After the prodigal son had spent all of his money he took a job feeding pigs (which was especially gross to the Israelites) and wished that he could eat the slop the pigs were eating. He decided to go back to his father and beg him to let him be his servant. at least that way he wouldn’t starve to death. But when he returned, his father ran to him and gave him a big hug and celebrated the fact that his son had come home! That’s what God is like when people come to the Truth and that’s how we should behave too. Godly love rejoices with the truth!

  • Romans 8:38-39 | God loves us no matter what.
  • Isaiah 30:18 | God waits for us to return to Him.
  • 1 Corinthians 13:6 | Rejoice with the truth.

“Love Rejoices With the Truth” Family Time Questions:

• What does God do when people realize they’ve been wrong?

• What should we do when people come back to God?

• What can we learn from the prodigal son?

• What can we learn from the prodigal son’s brother?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for saving me from my sins. Please help me to celebrate with those who come back to you instead of saying “I told you so.” In Jesus’ name, Amen.
