Do you want to know the secret to making friends? Instead of boasting or bragging about yourself and making everything about you, take an interest in other people! Godly love does not boast.
Everyone wants to be liked, and that’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with wanting friends, though we do need to be careful to not let that be our ultimate goal. Instead, it should be our goal to love God and love our neighbors. Sometimes, when we want people to like us, we think it’s a good idea to try and convince them that they should like us because we’re somehow better than them. We brag and boast and put others down as a way to try to look good. But that’s not the way! That’s not biblical and it simply doesn’t make sense. How do you feel about people who always talk about themselves or put others down to make themselves look better? You probably don’t like it when people do that, right? Instead of acting like that, let’s build others up and take an interest in them and get other people talking about themselves instead of always making things about us. And the funny thing is, the more you do that, the more people will actually want to be your friend! Godly love does not boast.
