God wants us to be there for people, He wants us to have their backs. Different Bibles translate this passage in several different ways. Your Bible might say, “Love always protects”, “Love bears all things”, “Love keeps every confidence”, “Love never gives up”, or some other variation. But they’re all saying, basically, the same thing: we’re supposed to be there for people. We’re supposed to be like a roof over someone’s head to cover them and shield them from the rain and snow. It’s a hard life to live, but it’s so worth it!

Douglas likes to play dodgeball, but sometimes he can’t handle everything thrown his way. That’s why he’s so glad for a friend who will step in and help protect him from the other team. She has his back, she’s there for him. sometimes she gets hit by a ball while protecting him, but, sometimes, this kind of godly love takes sacrifice. We should be like Douglas’ friend and bear each other’s burdens. When life is hard for other people, we should step in to help. And that can look like all kinds of things, but it always comes down to being there for other people and helping those in need. Godly love always protects.

“Love Always Protects” Bible Verses:

  • 1 Corinthians 13:7 | Love always protects.
  • Romans 15:1 | We are called to help others.
  • 1 John 3:16 | Out of love, Jesus gave his life for us.
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:11 | Be there for others.
  • Deuteronomy 31:6 | God is with us and protects us.

“Love Always Protects” Family Time Questions:

• Can you think of a time when someone “had your back”?

• How can we bear each other’s burdens?

• Is there ever a time when you shouldn’t keep a secret?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for always being there for me. Please help me to do my best to be there for others too. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
