Jesus performed His first miracle at the request of His mother, Mary. She asked Jesus to do something about the wine that had run out at a wedding they were both attending, and Jesus obeyed his mother and turned water into wine. At first, He didn’t want to get involved because He said that His time had not yet come. But even though Jesus is God and Mary is not, He still did as she asked because obeying your mother is the right thing to do. When our parents ask us to do something, it’s not our job to decide whether or not we’re going to obey. We should just obey. In almost every situation, our parents know better than we do. But the reason to obey is not because they are probably right, the reason to obey is because God says that children should obey their parents. Be like Jesus and listen to your mom.
Bible Verses:
- John 2:1-11 – Jesus Turns Water into Wine
- Ephesians 6:1-3 – Children, Obey Your Parents
- Colossians 3:20 – Obedience Pleases the Lord
- Proverbs 1:8 – Listen to Your Parents’ Instruction
Family Time Questions:
- What miracle did Jesus perform at His mother’s request?
- Why is it significant that Jesus obeyed His mother even though His “time had not yet come”?
- Why does God want children to obey their parents?
- What are some ways we can practice obedience in our daily lives?
Prayer:
“Dear God, thank You for our parents. Help us to obey them as Jesus obeyed Mary, showing respect and love through our actions. Teach us to listen and respond with obedience, knowing it pleases You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
