It can be really easy to get offended sometimes, but the Bible says that overlooking an offense is a very good thing. In fact, it says that it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense! So, we should “let it go.” It’s important to stand up for what’s right, but it’s not important to be offended all the time. God is the One True Judge, not us. God is not impressed when we hate hateful people, He’s impressed when we forgive others as He forgives us. When people are mean or offensive, we need to let it go.
Bible Verses About Overlooking an Offense:
- Proverbs 19:11 | It is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.
- Romans 12:19 | Don’t try to get even!
- Psalm 46:1 | God is there to help us.
- Colossians 3:13 | Forgive, as God forgave you.
- James 4:12 | God is the one true Judge.
Family Time Questions About Overlooking an Offense:
• Why do people go out looking for things that might offend them?
• What are some examples of things we shouldn’t be offended by? (Things we should “let go”?)
• What are some things we should stand up for? (Things we shouldn’t “let go”?)
Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for your goodness. Help me to know when I should stand up for what’s right and when I should just let it go. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
