The Bible says that we must not worship idols. This was a pretty straightforward command back in biblical times; many people worshipped statues back then. This is still a big deal in some parts of the world, though for some of us praying to statues is not a temptation. But even if you are not tempted to pray to a created thing, idolatry is still a big deal for all of us. If you consider anything or anyone to be as important or more important than God, then you have made that into an idol. Real fulfillment can only be found in God. Real comfort can only be found in God. Real truth can only be found in God. We need to flee from all forms of idolatry. Only worship God.
Bible Verses:
- 1 John 5:21 – Keep Yourself from idols
- Acts 17:29-30 – God is not an idol
- Exodus 20:3-5 – No other gods
- James 1:17 – Every good thing is found in God
Family Time Questions:
- Who should we pray to besides God?
- What are some things that can come between us and God?
- How can you tell if you’ve made something or someone into an idol?
- Why do you think it’s so important to flee idolatry?
Prayer:
“Dear God, thank you for being the One True God. Help us to honor you and never put anything or anyone above or beside you. We love you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
