There are times when you need to be sneaky about doing what’s right. God wants us to “let our lights shine” by doing good works and showing God’s love in front of others. But we’re not supposed to do good so that people will notice us, but so that they will praise God. That means that if you can do your good works secretly, do them secretly! Just make sure that this idea doesn’t keep you from doing what’s right entirely. You’re supposed to do what is good, but, if you can, hide your good works.
Bible Verses About Hiding Your Good Works:
- Matthew 6:1 | Don’t do good to get noticed by people.
- Galatians 1:10 | Seeking to please people instead of God is not serving Christ.
- Titus 3:14 | Do what is good.
- Colossians 3:23-24 | Do your good work in service to Jesus.
- Matthew 6:3-4 | If you can, do your good work in secret.
Family Time Questions About Hiding Your Good Works:
• What does it mean to let your light shine?
• When should you not do good works in front of other people?
• Why do we do good works?
• Is there ever a time when we should not do what is good?
Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for your goodness to me. Please help me to glorify You with my words and actions and help me to always point people to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
