We need God more than anything. You’ll often hear people say, “You have to pray and read your Bible every day.” And that is great advice, but it’s not the prayer or the reading that you need, it’s God. Reading your Bible is a great way to connect with God, but if you are just looking to “check a box”, then it’s quite likely that you will miss what God wants to share with you in Scripture. If, when you pray, you aren’t really trying to talk to God but just quickly saying memorized words so that you can get to your meal, you will absolutely miss out on the deep and personal connection that God wants to have with you. It’s not that you should feel ashamed if you don’t spend time with God every day. But if you don’t spend time with God every day you will be seriously missing out on what you need most. Don’t pray and read your Bible because you “have to.” Do it because you have to!

Bible Verses:

  • Psalm 42:1-2 – We long for God
  • John 15:5 – We need God
  • Psalm 63:1 – Earnestly seek God
  • Matthew 4:4 – Man does not live on bread alone

Family Time Questions:

  • Why should we pray and read our Bible every day?
  • What will happen if you don’t spend time with God?
  • Why is just “checking boxes” not very helpful?
  • What do we need more than God?

Prayer:

“Dear God, thank You for loving us. Please help us to spend good, quality time with You. We need You more than anything. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
