It can be very easy to judge ourselves. We like to be in control, we like to think we can decide for ourselves what’s right and what’s wrong. But only God is the One True Judge. Some of us feel like God could never forgive us or love us. We end up thinking, “I’m too far gone for God to want anything to do with me.” But we don’t decide if God wants us or not, He does. And, no matter who you are or what you’ve done, Jesus loves you, and He made a way for you to be with Him forever! It’s dangerous to try to put ourselves in the place of God. And that includes thinking that God could never forgive us, but it also includes thinking that God doesn’t need to. We have all done wrong, we all need God’s forgiveness, and we all need to recognize that forgiveness is His to give. Believe in Jesus, submit to God, and don’t judge yourself.

Bible Verses:

  • 1 Corinthians 4:3-5 – God is the judge
  • Romans 3:23 – All have sinned
  • Mark 10:18 – No one is good but God
  • Proverbs 21:2 – You are not always right

Family Time Questions:

  • Is anyone too far gone for God to forgive them?
  • Is anyone good enough that they don’t need God’s forgiveness?
  • Who decides those things?
  • Why did God send us His Son, Jesus?

Prayer:

“Dear God, thank You for being the One True Judge. And thank you also for your grace and forgiveness. Help us to submit to you and not try to be our own judge.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
