Are you being judgemental? There are a lot of people saying, “don’t judge” these days, but what does the Bible have to say about it?
The famous verse that you’ll often hear people quote says, “Judge not, lest ye be judged.” People often use that verse to excuse their own sinful behavior. And we certainly shouldn’t dismiss that verse, but Scripture paints a much larger picture about passing judgment than simply, “don’t judge”. For example, the Bible says that we do not judge the world (those outside the Church), only God does that. But we are supposed to judge those within the Church. However, even then, we are still supposed to bear up with one another whenever possible. Not everything is as black and white as we’d like it to be, and, in every situation, our goal should be love and reconciliation, never tearing people down in an attempt to build ourselves up.
Bible Verses:
- Matthew 7:1 | Don’t judge others if you don’t want to be judged.
- Galatians 5:13 | Don’t use your freedom in order to sin.
- Romans 2:1-3 | We are not the judge, God is.
- 1 Corinthians 5:12 | We are told to judge brothers and sisters in Christ.
- Colossians 3:13 | And we are also to bear up one another.
- Ephesians 4:32 | Be kind and patient with each other.
- Romans 14:13 | Don’t put a stumbling block in front of another person by what you do.
- Romans 14:12 | We will all answer to God for what we’ve done.
- Matthew 22:37-38 | Love God with all your heart, soul, and mind.
- Matthew 22:39 | Love your neighbor as yourself.

Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for your love and forgiveness. Help me to always remember to be patient with others as you have been patient and merciful towards me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
