Don’t let Satan mess you up by allowing yourself to be distracted by stuff that doesn’t matter. Peter walked on water until he let the wind and the waves distract him. Mary and Martha hosted Jesus and His disciples at their home, and while Martha thought only about what she should be doing for Jesus, Mary chose what was right: to sit at Jesus’ feet and learn from Him. Even otherwise “good things” can come between us and God if we let them!
God has a plan for all of us, and though many of us want to do great things for Him, it’s important that we not forget what’s most important. There are some things that we ought never to do, those sorts of things will always distract us from what’s important. There are some things that aren’t necessarily bad, but they can easily come between us and God if we let them (Yeah, I’m looking at you video games!). But even good things (like sports, hard work, and friendships, to name a few) can come between us and God if we focus too much on them and not enough on Jesus Christ and his will for our lives. Martha got angry when Mary listened to Jesus instead of serving Him, but Jesus said that Mary had chosen what was best. Let’s never lose sight of what’s most important!
