It seems like everyone knows that we should do no wrong and do what is good instead. The problem is that, though we know this, we end up putting all our effort, not towards abstaining from evil, but towards making excuses for our actions instead. Don’t try to make your sin seem “not so bad”, it is so bad! Instead, make every effort to live for God and choose His ways. And when you mess up (which you will) get back up and try again. Don’t make excuses, just do no wrong.

Bible Verses:

  • 1 Thessalonians 5:22 – Abstain from evil
  • Psalm 34:14 – Turn away from evil and do good
  • James 4:7-8 – Submit to God
  • Proverbs 4:14-15 – Don’t go there
  • Romans 12:9 – Hold fast to what is good

Family Time Questions:

  • Why is it bad to try to make our sin look not as bad as it really is?
  • Can we never mess up if we try really hard?
  • Will God still love us if we do wrong?
  • What should we do when we fail?

Prayer:

“Dear God, thank You for forgiving our sins. Please help us to not “sugarcoat” our sin, but instead make every effort to do no wrong. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
