God wants Christians to be on the same team. And unity in the Church isn’t just something that would be nice, it’s commanded over and over again in the Bible. Many Christians seem to have an attitude that says, “We can have unity once all Christians get their act together and finally believe exactly what I believe!” But that’s not what God has called us to. There are some things that we must all agree on. You can’t really call yourself a Christian if you don’t believe that Jesus is God, for example. But we are supposed to be patient with one another and accept one another in spite of our different beliefs in disputable matters. Our unity as Christians can and should show the world that Jesus really is who He says He is. Christian unity is essential.

Bible Verses:

  • John 17:20-23 – Jesus’ Prayer for Unity
  • Roman’s 14:1 – Don’t Fight Over Disputable Matters
  • 1 Peter 3:8 – Unity, Love, and Humility
  • Colossians 3:13-14 – Bear With One Another

Family Time Questions:

  • Why is Christian unity so important?
  • What sorts of things should we divide over?
  • What sorts of things should we not divide over?
  • What can we do to be a more unified Church?

Prayer:

“Dear God, thank You for saving us. Help us to bear with one another and pursue Christian unity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
