God wants us to be kind to everyone, but it’s also very important to choose your friends wisely. Our friends, the people we trust and respect, rub off on us. Little by little, we become more and more like the people around us, and that’s why it’s so important to surround yourself with positive influences!

There’s an old saying that goes something like, “show me your friends and I’ll show you your future.” And that’s pretty much true. If you surround yourself with negative influences then they’ll have a negative impact on your life. If you want to be a godly person, choose godly friends. It’s almost impossible to live the life God has called you to if you attach yourself to people who aren’t living for God. We want our friends to lift us up and help us to be better, not tear us down and make us worse. Sometimes, especially if you’re feeling lonely, it’s easy to feel like you just need friends, any friends, and you settle for whoever is nearby. But we need to be careful about who we allow to pour into our lives, it’s important to choose your friends wisely.

Bible Verses:

  • Galatians 6:10 | Be friendly and kind to everyone.
  • Matthew 5:44 | Show God’s love to even our enemies.
  • Proverbs 13:20 | We become like our closest friends.
  • Psalm 1:1-2 | Don’t go with the flow.
  • Proverbs 22:24-25 | Don’t surround yourself with people who do wrong.
  • Proverbs 12:26 | Choose your friends carefully.

Family Time Questions:

Why is it so important to choose our friends wisely?

• Why do you think we usually end up like our friends?

• what are some ways that you can be a godly friend?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for my friends. Please help me to be the sort of friend that brings others closer to you, and help me surround myself with friends who bring me closer to you as well. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
